I had an air conditioning issue and called a different HVAC company to investigate. What they told me sounded unlikely and expensive to fix.

I called AC Guy of Tampa for a second opinion. I chose them because a company who had done work for me a few years earlier merged with AC Guy of Tampa. I was happy with the earlier company's service, so I gave them a shot.

The receptionist at AC Guy of Tampa was genuinely friendly, professional and courteous. She told me what to expect and when I would be contacted by a service technician, and she gave me a window of when I could expect someone to come out.

The technician called me the next morning as expected. He was also very friendly and professional. He told me when he could be there, and he was good to his word. He diagnosed the problems quickly and kept me informed the entire time. The repairs / replacements were done quickly. He even waited around a while longer to make sure things were running well before leaving.

To his professional credit, when I asked why the other company told me something completely different, he did not throw them under the bus or say anything about their inability to diagnose / repair the issue at a reasonable price. Classy guy!

I am extremely pleased with my interaction with AC Guy of Tampa and would whole-heartedly recommend them to anyone else.

Great experience with AC guy of Tampa Bay. Mauricio came out to my mother in laws today and provided exceptional service on a system cleaning. Its been a few years since it was done, and he communicated with her explaining everything done, and didn't say she needed to spend 2k like the other crook. He got it up to where it needed without those unnecessary upsells others will try. Thank you Mauricio for your service and for being honest! Very much appreciated, I'm going to use AC guy for my home as well.

This review will cover both new installation and repair services. In 2017 a new heat pump and air handler was installed into my home. From the sales call to final install, it couldn't have gone better. It would have been a 5 star review had I written one. My issue comes on the repair side. From new, I paid a monthly fee for a maintenance plan with perks. Two events. First, about September 2022 the unit stopped cooling (a refrigerant leak). This was labor day. A technician came out and spent about 15 minutes probing. First around the heat pump (but didn't remove any panels to access interior components) and then the air handler in which he did remove one panel. While in the air handler his cell phone rang and said he had to go to another call. He reinstalled the panel, told me that another technician would be out the next day. I asked if he could put some charge in the system to get me through the night and he did. Next day I leave work to meet the technician and he found the leak in about 10 minutes. Outside copper feed line near the unit coming from the home, a small crack. Easy to find and fix. Except he wouldn't fix it. Said he had another call and someone would be there the next day. I leave work again. The leak was brazed, vacuumed down system, recharged and fixed. I lost 2 partial days work over 3 days and was charged just over $1000. I thought that was unreasonable but didn't complain. Second event, October 2024. No cooling and outside unit not running. Have a 10 year parts/labor warranty on the unit from new. Have to use an extended warranty authorized dealer in case of a covered failure. So, better the devil I know, sort of speak. Technicians came out (they were good) and diagnosed the failed component. Turns out it is a component that was added at new install. Technicians said this is their practice. Helps protect the control circuit card, I was told. Not covered under warranty. Cost for 15 minutes of setup, diagnosing and new part? Over $600. The control circuit card would have been under warranty had it been failed. To say I was angry is understated. I'm not the only one in the house and the crew was there so of course I had the part swapped. That took 5 minutes. Later that night I decided to look up the cost of the part. $50. I know there are overhead expenses to cover. But $600? I filed a complaint with the BBB. Asked for a refund of $400 or a counter by the company. The company was great in that they responded right away. They offered $200 which I accepted. They were cordial in their response, understood where I was coming from and shed transparency on what overhead they incur in their business. And said they would look at adding that transparency going forward. We know all AC companies lack that transparency because everyone I talk to seems to have a similar experience. For all this I would give a 2.5 to 3 star rating but since the response to my complaint was well handled I feel they deserve at least a 4. I still believe they are better than most other companies out there.

Mauricio came out and did my yearly service this afternoon. He did a thorough job and then try an up charge or rip me off. He gave me an honest assessment of things that may need to be done in the future. He was very professional and easy to earn a five star review.
