5 Essential Hurricane Prep Tips

1. Keep an emergency kit on hand
2. Invest in an AC cover
3. Stay indoors and follow directions
4. Stay dry
5. Don't be afraid to call for help

1. Keep an Emergency Kit on Hand

Safety first! It’s important to remember that even when things get terribly bad, as long as you and your family are safe, that’s all that really matters.

We encourage our customers to keep a storm safety kit on hand, which includes bottled water, a first aid kit, a hand-powered or battery powered radio, flashlights, and even charging batteries for your phones. This can make any serious emergency more manageable and will help to keep everyone together when a storm starts to separate us.

2. Invest in an AC Cover

When the storm approaches, the comfort of your home is going to be low on the list of priorities, but your AC still needs to be protected! Luckily, if the system is shut off, you can cover it with an AC cover or even a tarp that’s weighed down.

These covers are specifically designed to help the AC from getting clogged or broken with sticks, pebbles, dirt, dust, sand, and other debris that can fly around during a powerful storm.

3. Stay Indoors and Follow Directions

Your local meteorologists are the experts in these situations. If they call for an evacuation in your specific area, you’ll want to listen to them! They know exactly how powerful and damaging the storm is speculated to be.

Also, if evacuation is not an option or the storm isn’t powerful enough to warrant that kind of response, make sure you ride it out indoors. Being caught outside during a hurricane is extremely dangerous.

4. Stay Dry

Hurricanes can cause drips, leaks, and other issues that have to do with moisture. Not only is moisture throughout your home uncomfortable, it can lead to mold and serious problems with the infrastructure of your house.

Keep many dry towels around and try to manage any water that drips through your home. If you can keep things dry, then you can remain comfortable even during a very wet and powerful storm.

5. Don’t Be Afraid to Call for Help

Storms are emergencies and we need to work together to make it through them. Your community will serve as a guiding light when a bad hurricane hits. Work together with your neighbors, come up with a plan if something happens to your home, and don’t be afraid to call for emergency services when you’re in need.

Afterwards, if your air conditioner needs to be fixed, we’ll be there!
